Dear Believers Concert Band Members,

We are delighted to share some wonderful news about one of our own.

Before an audience of about 250 people at last Monday night’s Rotary Club Gainesville Awards Banquet, Dr. Peter (“Lou”) Henderson – our incoming band president – received the prestigious Sidney O. Smith Fellowship given in memory of the late Sidney O.Smith, a charter club member, to recognize a Rotarian’s goodwill and friendliness. The award has been presented since 1972 to a club member with at least 10 years of service.

Lou was recognized for his many accomplishments, with special emphasis on his leadership of the Rotary’s Club Wheelchair Ramp Program over the past 16 years. Through this effort, and that of his predecessors, the Rotary Club of Gainesville has built more than 160 wheelchair ramps for individuals who lack the financial means to build this essential component of full mobility.

Lou has been a dedicated member of Rotary Clubs since 1987, and this honor reflects decades of expert, hands-on service to the community.

Please join us in congratulating Lou on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for the spirit of service he brings both to Rotary and to our band.
