Gerard Mario Volante
August 15, 1938 – August 11, 2025
Gerard (Jerry) Volante, a faithful follower of Jesus, devoted husband, loving father, tender-hearted Pah-Paw, delighted great grandpa and an accomplished business executive, passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 86. Born on August 15, 1938, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jerry lived a life full of zest, love, humor, and with a deep commitment to his faith, family and friends.
Jerry’s academic journey began on the streets of Jersey City and continued to Burbank High School, where he graduated in 1956. He continued his education at California State University of Northridge and later earned his Executive MBA from Pepperdine University in 1987. His professional career spanned continents and five 5 decades. He was known for his leadership in the retail grocery industry which included pivotal organizational roles in the Board of Directors California Grocers Association, Board Association of Grocers Seattle, and as Chairman San Diego Grocers Association. Jerry was also known for his warmth and tireless work ethic where he mentored many and left a lasting mark on the industry. He held senior roles at Fazio’s, Big Bear Markets, Waldo’s of Mexico, Jetro Wholesale of New York, Al Azzizi-Panda United Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and as President CEO of Tradewell Group in Seattle, Washington.
Beyond his professional career, Jerry served with distinction in the United States Air Force National Guard, where his musical talent became a defining part of his service. Throughout his life, Jerry played the trombone, playing in recording studios, with big bands and countless events. Most recently Jerry played in the Southern Journey Big Band, Northwinds Symphonic Band and for the last 8 ½ years was a member of The Believers Concert Band. From professional engagements to intimate porch concerts, music was both his passion and his gift to the world. Beyond his music, Jerry was known for his humor and the camaraderie he inspired within the bands he played with.
Jerry is survived by his wife Sharron, and their two children: Jeff (Denise) of Gainesville, GA; and Jennifer of Walnut Creek, CA. He was a tender-hearted Pah-Paw to Danielle (Paul), Jill (Dub), Michael, Emily (Joe) and Erin (Blake) as well as a doting great grandpa to Jonah, Logan, Henderson and Taylor, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
A life well lived, Jerry will be remembered for his love, humor, warmth, gregariousness and unwavering commitment to his faith, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Gerard Volante to Gainesville First United Methodist Church Chapel or The Believers Concert Band or Northwinds Symphonic Band via the North Georgia Community Foundation.
