Jerry Griffin
Former band member, Jerry Griffin passed away yesterday morning. Jerry was an early member of the Believers Band, and a long-time member of Southern Journey Big Band until he quit for health reasons a few years ago. He played clarinet in Believers Band and baritone sax in Southern Journey. He and his family, especially his daughter Kathy Stewart and her husband, continued to be supporters of both bands. Southern Journey actually played a couple of times at the assisted living facility where Jerry was living.
He was living at The Oaks at 5610 Hampton Park Dr., Cumming, GA when he passed, and there will be a service for him there on Sept. 10 at 2:30 pm. There will be a service for him at Perimeter Church, 9500 Medlock Bridge Rd., Johns Creek, GA on Sept. 11 at 11:00 am. Jerry’s wife, Kathy said the family would love to see any band members that knew Jerry at one of the services. The band was very special to Jerry and Kathy.
Jerry Volante
As announced at Monday’s band rehearsal, Jerry Volante passed away this week also. Jerry played trombone in the Believers Band for 8 1/2 years and also played in Southern Journey Big Band and Northwinds Symphonic Band. Plans for Jerry Volante’s memorial service are still pending at this time.
